Grimace Records posted an update
3 months, 3 weeks agoWhen we started the label in 2019, we had a clear vision.
1. Make sure artists retain ownership of their creative content.
2. Artists keep the lion’s share of the revenue generated with their content.
3. Raise funds for causes that we believe will positively impact our world.
4. Provide resources to help artist grow.We started off strong. We had some of the largest playlists in numerous countries. Our bands were seeing massive streaming activity and royalties. We raised thousands of dollars for humanitarian causes and supported bands on tour with merch, transportation, vinyl pressings and much more. Over the past couple years, the more independent side of the industry has been attacked by corporate actors in their attempt to take even more of what does not belong to them. Unfortunately, Spotify is where the majority of the streaming audience is. Not only, have they started not paying out around 80% of the artists on their platform but without cause, started deleting playlists with tens of thousands of daily listeners. This is just furthering their efforts to not pay out as many artists as possible. This is just one platform. These issues and more exist across a multitude of platforms.
It has taken some time to devise a plan to combat the manipulation tactics by corporate vampires but we are finally here. As long as we depend on corporate platforms, we will continue to receive the same treatment. Here is how we are adapting and pressing forward.
1. We are recreating all the playlists with our partners across the world with duplicate copies of if and when the platforms decide they have too many listeners.
2. We are focusing on doing more for a smaller group of artists. Communication is key here.
3. One of our core values is to keep artist in control of their creations. In an effort to move that idea forward, we have partnered with SolStream Music to give artists free distribution to all major platforms. as well as direct upload to their streaming platform. Artists are paid via subscription revenue. As subscribers grow, so does artist payouts.
4. Resources regarding touring, streaming, merch, video production and more will be added here on Volume.Social in it’s specified group pages. If everyone contributes, there will be a wealth of knowledge that will help us all continue to grow. Gatekeeping is what led to this extremely toxic environment. It’s time we break down these barriers.
We want to say thank you to those that have been understanding and have weathered the storm with us. See you back on top!
